With the stress test and early name reservations nearing their end, the official launch of WoW Forever is just around the corner! Regardless of whether you participated in the beta, you'll need to be well-prepared for the official release.
In this guide, we'll walk you through the details of WoW Forever launch, helping you get ready to jump into the game the moment it goes live on November 4th!
Official launch time
WoW Forever will officially launch on November 4th at 3:00 PM PST. Please adjust this time according to your own time zone. Here are a few key time zone references:
- GMT: November 4th, 11:00 PM
- CET: November 5th, 12:00 AM (Midnight)
- KST: November 5th, 8:00 AM
Additionally, please note that any characters or progress from the beta or stress test will not carry over to the official game; you will need to start from scratch.
Choose your experience preset first
Before creating your character and selecting a class, you will need to complete a few initial setup steps, the first of which is choosing an experience preset.
While the term experience preset can mean different things in various games, in WoW Forever, it refers to the configuration of your client's visual style and user interface (UI).
WoW Forever currently offers two options: Classic and Enhanced. The classic preset uses standard-definition character models, keeps certain visual effects and features disabled by default, and utilizes the traditional, classic UI layout.
If you are a new player, we recommend choosing Enhanced. While it may make the interface appear a bit more elaborate, it generally makes it easier to locate specific icons and features.
Keep in mind that you can change your experience preset at any time as you progress through the game.
Select your ruleset
While your experience preset dictates the visual and UI aspects of WoW Forever, your ruleset determines the specific gameplay rules and the type of community environment you will experience.
While WoW Classic previously relied on a traditional server-list selection method, WoW Forever introduces a new ruleset system, designed to create a more tailored gaming environment for players with different preferences.
Currently, WoW Forever features four rulesets, Normal, PvP, Roleplay, and Roleplay PvP, each with its own unique rules and gameplay style. A Hardcore mode will also be added some time after the official launch.
You can choose whichever suits your preferences, but if you lack experience, starting with the normal ruleset is recommended.
Rulesets with a lower difficulty level allow you to accumulate WoW Forever gold more safely during the early stages of the game, ensuring steady progress and preventing the frustration that can arise when the game becomes too difficult to navigate.
Creating your character name
If you participated in the beta, you can skip this step, as you likely already secured a name during the early name reservation period held over the past week.
If you didn't participate, don't worry, early reservations were primarily for those keen on snagging popular or highly sought-after names. If you aren't set on a specific name, there's plenty of time to choose one once the game goes live.
Notably, WoW Forever breaks from the series' tradition by introducing a new dual-name (first and last name) system.
This not only expands your naming options, helping you avoid the need for awkward, nonsensical character names caused by common names already being taken, but also encourages more unique names that can spark conversation within the community.
Choosing a class and race
Once the steps above are complete, you can begin creating your first WoW Forever character. Beyond the name, the most important decisions are selecting your class and race.
You can stick to the preferences you've developed in other World of Warcraft titles, or explore the new race, Skyborne, along with other fresh class + race combinations, such as Troll Warlocks, Human Hunters, Dwarf Shamans, and more.
If you choose to play as a Skyborne, your faction selection will determine which classes are available to you: Horde offers Shaman class, while Alliance offers Mage class.
It is worth noting that Shaman class has received significant improvements in WoW Forever compared to previous iterations. If you're unsure which class to start with, Shaman is a great one to try first.
Progressing through the game
In the official release of WoW Forever, the level cap is 60. Zones, raids, and dungeons feature varying difficulty levels, each with specific level requirements for entry.
As you begin your journey, avoid rushing into content that exceeds your current level. Instead, focus on completing quests to accumulate XP and gold. Once you have reached a sufficient level, you can begin tackling other content to farm for gear.
Throughout this process, be sure to take advantage of the new camping system. These are shared camps built collectively by players; you can contribute up to three beneficial features to a camp, based on your character's profession.
Players passing by can stop at these camps to rest, craft items, or interact with others. If you are looking for teammates to clear raids or dungeons, these camps are an excellent place to connect.
This covers the core progression path for getting started in WoW Forever upon its official release. We hope this information proves helpful for your future adventures!
