How to Avoid Crowded Starting Zones and Level Up Quickly in WoW Forever?

PublishedPublished: Nov 06, 2026

During the WoW Forever launch window, monster spawn rates in starting zones will be significantly increased. This adjustment is designed to prevent bottlenecks caused by the large number of players at launch.

It is only temporary, and spawn rates in low-level zones will eventually return to more normal levels. However, this also creates a rare opportunity to temporarily change your leveling approach.

Choosing Your Starting Zone

The most crowded leveling areas during launch will be shared starting zones, such as Durotar, Dun Morogh, Tirisfal Glades, and Elwynn Forest.

Tirisfal Glades will face additional congestion due to the introduction of the new Undead Paladins. Mulgore and Teldrassil, on the other hand, are expected to be among the least crowded starting zones.

Night Elves also have an advantage in areas such as Teldrassil, where they can often reach level 20 ahead of players from other races. However, old speedrun records were established under conditions where players did not have to compete for quest objectives, so they may not be reliable during launch.

Regardless of which starting zone you choose, make sure to enable the built-in quest points of interest and objective highlight tracker before entering WoW Classic+. Start by completing the most basic quests.

Level 1-5

Once you log in, pick up all the available quests in your starting zone as usual, including kill quests and drop quests. However, do not make questing your top priority. With the new monster density adjustments, your best approach is to immediately find a quiet corner of the starting zone and grind monsters continuously.

In Durotar, you can farm level 1-2 boars, preferably in less crowded areas to the southwest. In Elwynn Forest, you can head west and kill wolves.

The main strategy at this stage is to mix kills against level 1-2 monsters. You will need approximately 27 kills to reach level 3. At a rate of two kills per minute, this should take around 13 minutes.

Once you reach level 3, you can continue grinding while moving into other areas, such as the spiders in Tirisfal Glades or Defias in Elwynn Forest.

Your next target is to farm a mix of level 3-4 monsters. Approximately 60 kills should get you to level 5, requiring another 30 minutes or so. In total, you will need around 87 monster kills to progress from level 1 to 5, with little need to leave your starting zone.

Also, do not overlook the profession quests available in each starting zone. These quests reward training books for Mining, Herbalism, or Skinning.

The profession quests in Elwynn Forest, Dun Morogh, Teldrassil, and Mulgore are particularly easy to complete. They do not require you to wait in line for special monsters or compete for contested objectives.

As you level, remember to clear your bags regularly and acquire dedicated bags for storing profession materials. If necessary, you can buy WoW Forever gold to stock up on mana regeneration consumables and maintain your grinding rotation.

Level 5-6

Once you reach level 5, you can safely leave your starting zone. You can continue grinding in Tirisfal Glades or Elwynn Forest. Ideally, reach level 6 before entering town, as quests such as A New Plague and Princess Must Die in Brill require at least level 6.

This is also a good time to find a partner and try Duo leveling, especially for quests that involve killing specific monsters or collecting quest items. Rather than competing with other players for objectives on your own, you can team up with someone around your level and complete these quests together.

The official team has introduced a more predictable Round-robin loot distribution system, allowing party members to take turns receiving monster drops.

However, this does not mean that monsters will drop additional quest items. The actual benefits still depend on each quest's individual drop rules. Two players can nevertheless divide the work efficiently and make progress on their objectives together.

After Level 6

Each starting zone now has an additional 16-25 quests. These quests provide a substantial amount of extra experience, enough to support leveling to around level 13. Therefore, it is worth incorporating them into your early leveling route, but you do not need to stay on the same map just to complete every quest.

Trying to clear every available quest can actually waste a lot of time. The official intention is to give players more options, allowing you to move between areas according to your current level and the competition for quest objectives.

However, two quests are worth prioritizing. Each starting zone has a unique quest that rewards a six-slot bag. Expanding your inventory space early will reduce the hassle of managing items throughout the leveling process.

After accepting the campsite quest The Great Outdoors, find the designated campfire and sit beside it for one minute. Avoid performing any other actions while waiting to ensure that the quest is completed successfully.

Early Dungeons

At around level 13, you can start tackling your first dungeon. Horde players can form a group and head to Ragefire Chasm, while Alliance players can try Hall of Thanes at around level 14.

The value of early dungeons goes beyond experience. Quest rewards and gear drops are also important. For example, Forsaken Greataxe can significantly improve your character's combat effectiveness.

Once you obtain suitable gear, returning to the open world to complete quests around your level will become much easier. You will also be able to kill monsters and progress through quests more efficiently.

Therefore, do not skip early dungeons simply because you have heard that monster experience or dungeon quest experience has been reduced. Even with lower experience rewards, the gear and quest rewards are still well worth obtaining.

We still do not know exactly how long this launch window will last. However, if you want to avoid waiting in line for monster respawns or getting blocked by other players around quest NPCs, heading into the open world to level is a good way to keep progressing without wasting time.
