Wardogs Season 2 Developer Balance Changes | Wipe Changes, Gear Adjustments, And Intel Progression

Wardogs Season 2 will launch on October 15, bringing several new mechanics, an economic reset, and a wide range of balance changes.

Wardogs Season 1 was a huge success, so players are paying close attention to how Season 2 will perform. Although the official team has not released a detailed post yet, the developers have discussed their balance plans for Season 2 in interviews.

October 2 Hotfix

IR Goggles

IR Goggles were too powerful, allowing players to spot enemies directly from one side of the map to the other. Snipers could first mark a target with a rangefinder and then aim down sights to secure a one-shot kill. Even more importantly, the goggles could mark targets through smoke, allowing players to simply fire into the smoke and eliminate them.

After the hotfix released on October 2, IR Goggles were disabled from Vendor until Season 2. When they return, they will require Batteries. According to the official team, this change was made because player feedback showed that the goggles were simply too powerful.

CIWS

CIWS can now destroy Havoc in around 6 seconds, compared with roughly 12 seconds previously. The developers admitted that the previous patch overcorrected its effectiveness, so the issue has already been addressed through a hotfix.

This change probably will not be reverted in Season 2 because helicopter base invasions have been somewhat too powerful, and the official team needs to tone them down.

Parachute Mechanic

The development team believes the current parachute mechanic makes helicopters feel almost like teleporters for passengers. Pilots only need to drop Hot Zone players over Hot Zone, and they barely need to land at all.

In the current meta, players almost have to carry a parachute. Without one, pilots will constantly urge you to jump because they simply do not want to land and would rather fly over the target area and let players jump out on their own.

The development team plans to raise the minimum parachute deployment height from the current roughly 2.5 meters to 25 meters, which is the normal height they originally intended.

The goal is to make players rely more on pilots to land normally instead of having passengers immediately parachute toward the destination as soon as the helicopter reaches the target area.

The official team may also increase the value of parachutes. In Season 1, a parachute could be obtained for only 100 cash, so losing one was not a major setback.

After the adjustment, parachutes would no longer be an automatic choice for every loadout, while also encouraging pilots to actually land and drop players at better positions.

If pilots are more willing to land, infantry countering helicopters with RPGs and rockets could also become more interesting because helicopters would have to fly at lower altitudes.

However, not every pilot is reliable. A bad pilot could leave you in a terrible position, get shot down, or crash the helicopter themselves. Without a parachute, teammates would not even be able to jump out and escape, meaning everyone could end up going down together.

Wardogs Countering Helicopters

Level 4 Helmet

Players have been asking for countermeasures against Level 4 helmets. They can block multiple headshots, and although they add some extra weight, they have few meaningful drawbacks. They also look like a full-face shield, which is why many players want some form of audio or visual drawback.

The developers have listened to this feedback and plan to add obvious visual and audio limitations to Level 4 helmets, similar to wearing a large face mask in Tarkov.

The visor of Level 4 helmet will also fog up during rainy weather and cannot be raised or removed. With rain being added in Season 2, this will directly affect the usefulness of Level 4 helmets.

If you cannot put the helmet away in your backpack, you will have to either choose not to wear it or endure restricted visibility in the rain.

Content Retained after Wipe

In Season 2, level progression and Cash will be reset, while remaining Wardogs cash will automatically be converted into Gold Bars. Meanwhile, Gold Bars and cosmetics obtained through Gold Market will be retained permanently.

Everything in Gold Bar Store will be retained except Black & Gold AK-47, which the official team uses as bait to catch cheaters.

The official team has not yet determined the length of each season, as they are still considering when the full version of the game should be released. They estimate that it will take 23 months, or roughly two years.

Progression System

The official team also discussed experience and progression. Instead of simply increasing everyone's experience gains, their plan is to introduce a completely new resource called Intel.

Currently, players unlock entire weapons. In the future, Intel may allow players to return to the front-end Gunsmith and unlock weapon attachments.

There is currently Cash and experience, while Intel will be added later. Intel will be used to unlock Weapon Parts.

This means weapon progression will no longer simply involve leveling up and suddenly receiving another gun. Instead, progression will revolve around a base weapon platform, with players gradually unlocking parts and customizing it, significantly changing how the progression system works.

All of the information above comes from details revealed by the official team in its blog posts, and some aspects may still be adjusted during development. In any case, the official team may release the detailed Season 2 balance patch very soon, so it is worth waiting for the full details.
