In Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.5, both Spark and Arc are excellent lightning spells, though they excel in different areas: Spark offers broad coverage and deals damage without requiring precise aiming, while Arc - especially when paired with Sione's Temper support gem - delivers higher direct damage and superior map-clearing efficiency.
The essence of this Spark + Arc Stormweaver build lies in combining the two skills via Cast on Crit. You self-cast Spark for sustained output while leveraging a high critical strike rate to constantly trigger Arc, striking a balance between clearing speed and single-target damage.
Ascendancy Skill Selection

Stormweaver is the Sorceress Ascendancy class; this build's core mechanics rely heavily on the synergy between mana and Arcane Surge.
Constant Gale
The first key Ascendancy skill is Constant Gale, which provides a permanent Arcane Surge buff. This effect is crucial for the build as it directly boosts mana regeneration. Since Archmage support gem significantly increases skill mana costs, stable mana regeneration is the foundation that keeps the build running.
Force of Will
The second node is Force of Will. Patch 0.5.5 adjusted this node so that every 25 points of maximum mana now grants a 1% increase to Arcane Surge effectiveness (previously every 15 points). It is also pivotal for achieving the defensive mechanic where 100% of damage is taken from mana before life. As current mana drops, the Arcane Surge effect intensifies further, allowing the character to recover quickly after taking heavy damage.
Heavy Snow & Shaper of Winter
The third and fourth Ascendancy skills are optional, but Heavy Snow and Shaper of Winter are highly recommended. When combined, lightning damage can apply Chill twice, reducing enemy action speed by a total of 35%. Given that Spark continuously hits nearby targets, this combination creates a near-permanent area-of-effect slow, proving extremely useful in boss fights and high-density maps.
Gear Setup
Gear selection for Spark + Arc Stormweaver build centers on mana, energy shield, critical strike chance, skill levels, and Damage Taken from Mana Before Life. Since mana determines the damage output for Archmage while also serving as a core defensive mechanism, your gear choices must balance offensive power with the mana-based system.
Helmet
Look for a helmet with mana, critical strike chance, and the highest possible energy shield (ES). ES is crucial because Eldritch Battery converts it entirely into mana. Be sure to socket an Idol of Eeshta into the helmet to gain a 15% improvement in mana cost efficiency.
Weapon
Use a Galvanic Wand as the base; the key implicit modifier is +5 to Level of all Lightning Spell Skills. Ideal explicit modifiers include critical strike chance, cast speed, and +1 to Level of all Spell Skills.
Body Armour

For the base, choose a Feathered Robe, as its implicit modifier provides a percentage of damage taken from Mana before Life. You should aim for Desecrated suffix - which also provides damage taken from Mana - and socket a Wisdom Rune for an additional 15% damage taken from Mana. Combining these three elements is essential to reaching the 100% damage-taken-from-Mana threshold. Prioritize Energy Shield and resistances for the remaining affixes to further boost survivability.
Amulet
Use a Stellar Amulet, prioritizing versions with skill level bonuses for Archmage or Cast on Critical. Archmage version is generally easier to acquire; if your budget allows, you can also craft a version with Cast on Critical.
When crafting, start by using Chaos Orbs to roll Spirit or +3 to Level of all Spell Skills, then use a Fracturing Orb to lock that affix. Afterward, continue using Chaos Orbs to hunt for the other key affix.
Once the core affixes are set, add and reroll affixes to aim for Mana or Cast Speed, while using Desecrated mod to fill in any remaining gaps.
Rings
The ring used in this build is arguably the best Mana ring in PoE 2. Choose a Breach Ring base, which comes with an implicit modifier for increased Mana Cost Efficiency of Skills.
Key affixes include:
- Mana
- Mana Regeneration
- Mana Cost Efficiency
- % increased Maximum Mana
- Cast Speed
- Resistances
You can deterministically add % increased Maximum Mana using a Perfect Essence of the Mind. Then, use Kalandra's Touch to mirror the ring and pair it with an Ingenuity belt to further amplify its effects.
However, this ring has strict affix requirements and is relatively expensive to craft. If resources are limited, you can buy PoE 2 currency to speed up the crafting process.
Gloves
Use standard Energy Shield gloves. Key affixes include Energy Shield and resistances, but the most important feature is the 60% increased Effect of Socketed Augment Items obtained via an Essence of Horror.
You can then attempt to use a Vaal Orb to gain an extra socket. If successful, socket Kiral's Gaze to further enhance the effect of Arcane Surge.
Belt
This build utilizes Ingenuity belt. Its primary role isn't simply to stack damage in the traditional PoE2 sense, but rather to synergize with high-quality, high-value rings, further amplifying the attributes they provide.
Consequently, the combination of Ingenuity, Kalandra's Touch, and a high-quality Breach Ring forms a crucial component of the build's late-game mana scaling.
Gem Links
The build's core skill system revolves around self-cast Spark, Arc triggered via Cast on Critical, and mana scaling through Archmage. Spark handles continuous attacks and critical hits, while Cast on Critical utilizes those crits to automatically cast Arc; together, they constitute the build's primary source of damage output.
Spark: Primary Damage Skill
Spark is responsible for map clearing and sustained damage output. Since it continuously fires projectiles in all directions, it offers rapid, wide-area coverage while consistently landing critical hits to trigger Cast on Critical.

Vilenta's Propulsion allows modifiers to Cast Speed to also apply to projectile speed, thereby extending Spark's coverage range.
Cast on Critical + Arc: Core Trigger Mechanism
Cast on Critical is the central mechanic of Spark + Arc Stormweaver build. By landing critical hits with Spark, the build automatically casts Arc, allowing for continuous additional lightning damage alongside the self-cast Spark.

Cast on Critical + Arc + Sione's Temper + Zenith II + Pinpoint Critical + Efficiency II
Sione's Temper is a key support gem for Arc; it enhances the effect of additional Arc projectiles, further boosting both map-clearing speed and single-target damage.
Archmage: Core of Mana Scaling
Archmage is the primary reason for stacking mana in this build, as it grants additional lightning damage based on your maximum mana.

Overall, Spark + Arc Stormweaver build delivers strong performance in map clearing, boss encounters, and late-game progression through the synergy of Arc, Spark, and Cast on Critical. If you enjoy a highly mobile, ranged spellcasting playstyle and seek a fluid map-clearing experience, this build is a worthy investment for Path of Exile 2 version 0.5.5.
