In Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5.5, Melting Maelstrom Shaman build, a revolutionary approach built around the Ultimate Mana Flask, is redefining damage output and survival logic in a unique way.

It doesn't rely on traditional main skill combos, but instead makes the flask the core engine of the entire build. It trades self-damage for damage and endless regeneration to sustain its mana, making it one of the most innovative builds in the current Forbidden Rites league.

Build Core: Melting Maelstrom

Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.5 Melting Maelstrom Shaman Break the Meta: How One Flask Turns Mana Into Endless Damage?

The core of this build is a unique mana flask called Melting Maelstrom, available from level 60 onwards, dropped by Kosis, The Revelation in T11+ Delirious map.

The unique aspect of this flask is that it deals Chaos damage to enemies within a 3-meter radius every 3 seconds during its effect. This damage is equivalent to 50% of your mana consumed during those 3 seconds. In other words, the more mana you consume, the higher the damage.

When the flask effect ends, it deals Chaos damage equal to 25% of your current mana to yourself. Normally, this would be a penalty, but in this build, this self-damage is cleverly transformed into a driving force for resource recycling.

Self-Damage Transformed into Recovery: The Brilliant Use of Forsaken Bangle

To turn self-damage into an advantage, a key item is needed: Forsaken Bangle Amethyst Charm.

This is a unique charm in Path of Exile 2, providing +18% Chaos Resistance and a crucial affix for this build: 50% of Chaos damage you prevent when Hit Recouped as Life and Mana during its effect.

Therefore, when Melting Maelstrom's self-damage is triggered, Forsaken Bangle converts half of Chaos damage into health and mana regeneration.

This means the more frequently you take self-damage, the faster your mana regeneration, allowing you to sustain higher mana consumption, and enabling Melting Maelstrom to unleash even stronger Chaos damage—a perfect positive cycle is thus formed.

Infinite Sustain Engine

To keep this cycle running, Flask's charges must be continuous. Melting Maelstrom Shaman constructs a sophisticated charging loop system through multiple pieces of equipment and gems.

First is Hollow Mask Hewn Mask, which grants you the Wildwood's Gifts ability, allowing you to see nearby Ancient Blooms. Collecting these grants charges to Melting Maelstrom and Forsaken Bangle Amethyst Charms.

PoE 2 Hollow Mask Hewn Mask

Combined with support gems like Remnant Potency and Harmonic Remnants, it can provide you with near 100% Charm uptime.

Secondly, there are the Corpsesewade Iron Greaves, these unique boots grant you Decompose skill- every 1.2 meters you move consumes a corpse, creating a cloud of poison gas. This is the core of the entire charging engine.

Through Gorge support gem, each corpse consumed grants 10 charges to your mana and health potions. As you move throughout combat, corpses are continuously consumed, flask charges are replenished, and Melting Maelstrom can be used repeatedly, resulting in a relentless barrage of damage.

When facing bosses, there are often not enough corpses on the map to consume. This build solves this problem using Sacrifice spirit gem. Sacrifice's effect is that during its activation, your undead reviving minions can be consumed by abilities instead of corpses.

This means you can actively consume your summoned minions to trigger Decompose charging effect.

The build utilizes a large amount of Skeletal Cleric as sacrificial materials. These Cleric items are not only plentiful but can also resurrect each other. Combined with Corpse Conservation and related nodes on the talent tree, there's approximately a 75% chance of not consuming corpses.

This makes the summon engine extremely stable, maintaining Flask charge in almost any combat scenario.

Defense: Eldritch Battery and Mind over Matter

On the defensive side, this build takes a completely different path from traditional PoE 2 builds. Eldritch Battery talent tree converts all your Energy Shield into mana, doubling mana consumption.

Doubling consumption sounds negative, but in this build, it's a tremendous benefit. Melting Maelstrom damage is directly linked to mana consumption; the higher the consumption, the higher the damage.

With Mind over Matter, all damage is deducted from mana first, not life. With approximately 5000 mana, your effective life pool far exceeds the apparent 1400 life. With its extremely high mana regeneration rate, any non-lethal damage will be instantly recovered, making your character virtually invincible in most combat situations.

Since this build heavily relies on maximum mana, Chaos resistance, and Recoup, if you lack crafting resources while adjusting affixes, you can buy PoE 2 currency to replenish them quickly.

Other Gear and Passive Skill Choices

In addition to the core gear mentioned above, Melting Maelstrom Shaman also utilizes the Dream Fragments and Kalandra's Touch rings to stack maximum mana. Kalandra's Touch copies the attributes of the other ring, doubling the mana bonus of Dream Fragments.

Regarding the belt, Mageblood is not essential, but its affix 20% of flask recovery is applied instantly significantly improves mana sustain; Waistgate is another interesting option, allowing you to equip two Melting Maelstrom flasks simultaneously, theoretically doubling the frequency of Chaos damage triggers.

Regarding Shaman's Ascendancy passive skill selection, prioritize Sacred Flow, granting +40 Spirit per empty charm slot, resulting in 80 extra Spirit from two empty slots, used to summon more Skeletal Clerics.

Next, choose Wisdom of the Maji for the bonded affix bonuses to Runes and Idols, and finally invest in Avatar of Evolution for elemental defense.

In short, Melting Maelstrom Shaman is an extreme example of converting self-damage into damage. It uses Forsaken Bangle to transform self-damage into healing, Corpsewade and Sacrifice to convert corpses into potion charges, and Eldritch Battery to amplify mana consumption, ultimately creating a unique build where both damage and survivability are built upon mana cycling.
