Been Playing Monk Wrong in Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.0? This Whirling Assault Invoker Uses Concussive Runes to Chain Heralds

Category: Path Of Exile 2 Posted: Aug 10, 2026 Views: 14

Players, if you're struggling to find a Monk build in Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.0 that can both instantly clear the map and tank the final boss, then this Whirling Assault Invoker build is definitely worth your time to learn and apply.

Whirling Assault Invoker, with the help of Concussive Runes support gem and a large amount of stun accumulation, allows Herald of Ice and Herald of Thunder skills to form a perpetual motion machine-like explosive cycle - clearing maps so quickly that you'll want to share it with the community while you're farming!

Core Mechanics

Veteran players should know that since PoE Patch 0.2.0, Herald Skills can no longer trigger each other.

However, this Whirling Assault Invoker build is different. We have introduced a new support gem: Concussive Runes. This gem can trigger a Runic Shockwave when you deal a heavy stun to an enemy. This shockwave is considered a non-Herald attack, which can effectively start the explosion loop of the two major Herald Skills.

To achieve stable and frequent stun triggers, we'll invest up to 940% of our build modifiers in the stun setup, explicitly relying on Lightning Damage as the primary stun source. This ensures Concussive Runes remain continuously active.

Skill Links

The primary attack skill for this build is Whirling Blades, linked to Innervate support gem for a near-permanent 25% lightning damage bonus upon killing a shocked enemy.

We also need to use Elemental Armament II, Efficiency II, and Oisin's Oath support gem for mana sustain.

For Herald of Ice, this requires linking Cold Mastery, Magnified Area II, Stun III, Elemental Armament II, and the crucial Concussive Runes support gem.

Herald of Thunder also requires Concussive Runes support gem, along with Lightning Mastery, Magnified Area II, Stun III, and Elemental Armament II.

For defensive skills in this Whirling Assault Invoker build, we use Ghost Stance in conjunction with Cooldown Recovery II support gem.

Wind Dancer is linked to Magnified Area II, Freeze, Elemental Armament II, Blind II, and Cold Attunement to enhance the character's survivability and crowd control.

Elemental Conflux is further enhanced using Dialla's Desire and Uhtred's Omen support gems.

Furthermore, to avoid resource depletion caused by each Concussive Runes triggering and consuming Runic Ward, we can use Remnants of Call of the Void to reliably replenish Runic Ward - this requires our Whirling Assault Invoker to have at least 300 base Runic Ward, with 400 being optimal.

Equipment Configuration

Weapon

To further improve stun accumulation, we can choose a pure elemental Quarterstaff weapon for Whirling Assault Invoker and socket it with a Perfect Stone Rune.

Rings

For the ring slot, prioritize Polcirkeln to maximize the blast radius, resulting in better map clearing efficiency compared to Kalandra's Touch Ring.

Helmet

Whirling Assault Invoker's helmet uses Runeforged Sorcerous Tiara base for increased resistances.

Gloves

The gloves are made with War Wraps base, which provides us with melee skill levels, critical strike damage, and attack bonuses.

Body Armour

A Grand Regalia Body Armour piece will provide Whirling Assault Invoker with additional elemental resistances, Evasion, and Energy Shield bonuses.

Belt

Mageblood belt is perhaps the most expensive PoE2 currency item in this Whirling Assault Invoker build, and it should be paired with Legacy of Diamond, two Legacy of Jade, and Legacy of Silver to increase critical strike chance and skill speed.

If we can trigger specific Ascendancy effects in Path of Exile 2, the critical strike chance of this Whirling Assault Invoker build could potentially reach 100%, with a critical strike damage bonus of nearly 800%.

Passive Skill Tree

To maximize the explosion coverage of Herald of Ice and Herald of Thunder, we need to prioritize investing in Area of Effect in our Passive Skill Tree setup and acquire as many relevant nodes as possible.

For example, Discipline and Training, and Bond of the Ape, are passives that enhance the chain efficiency of Herald of Ice and Herald of Thunder.

At the same time, Stun and Freeze Buildup is also a must for us, to bring the entire Whirling Assault Invoker to its optimal state.

In addition, jewelry is also very important for Whirling Assault Invoker, so when choosing jewelry, we should pay attention to affixes such as critical strike chance, critical strike damage, and attack speed. However, it is important to note that attack damage affixes should be able to apply to both Herald of Ice and Herald of Thunder.

Use Voices with two Sinister Jewel Sockets, along with Heart of the Well and Against the Darkness, for double buffs and critical strike chance.

Since our chosen Ascendancy class is Invoker, key nodes include Lead me through Grace for Spirit.

I am the Thunder provides additional damage for Whirling Assault Invoker, making it a crucial core passive skill.

I am the Blizzard creates a permanent Chilled Ground, achieving a crowd control effect similar to Temporal Chains aura in PoE 2.

However, if your PoE 2 currency isn't sufficient to support the aforementioned top-tier pure elemental Quarterstaff, it's recommended to use Unbound Avatar node - providing 40% more elemental damage and an elemental ailment buildup, significantly enhancing the overall strength of Whirling Assault Invoker.

It's worth mentioning that whether it's this Whirling Assault Invoker build or other builds in the game, if you're short on resources, follow IGGM PoE 2 Facebook Group. We hold giveaways from time to time, and you'll have a chance to win free currency if you participate!

In Path of Exile 2 gameplay, this Whirling Assault Invoker build easily handles 200% Delirium and Tier 13+ monsters, clearing maps extremely quickly. Go build your own Whirling Assault Invoker!
