• Path of Exile 2 0.5.5 Livestream Preview: What Can We Expect from This Final Major Update before 1.0 Release?

  Dear Exiles, you have probably already come across the official 0.5.5 Livestream Announcement. On August 27th at 2:30 PM (CDT), Path of Exile 2 development team will be giving a preview livestream, most likely the final major update prior to the 1.0 release, in which more information about this update will be revealed.

  The 0.5.5 patch, even though it had been highly anticipated, is not a complete expansion since it won't bring in a brand-new challenge league system but instead involves a minor league reset with the aim of reviving the in-game economy and getting players to make new characters. Of course, its more important function is that with several months to go before the official release of 1.0, a major update is necessary to prepare for the full release of PoE 2. Otherwise, this long gap will not retain players.

  Therefore, the focus of this livestream preview may not be on the brand-new endgame system, but rather on class balance, ascendancy optimization, and story expansion. The following are some of the changes that could show up in 0.5.5 according to current leaks and community discussions. Even though these main predictions have not been officially confirmed, they do give an idea of what the 0.5.5 update might involve. Let's have a look.

  

  League Economy Reset

  As we mentioned before, compared to a major endgame rework, the player community generally expects GGG to reset the in-game economy, creating a completely new game environment for players.

  It would be very reasonable in the case where the developers delayed the major content update until version 1.0, since a new economy system would let players start again from a fairly even playing field, rebuild their POE 2 currency reserves, try out new builds, and go through the early game progression cycle once more.

  For a game like POE 2, this alone is exciting enough; progression within the league has always been one of the series' standout features and even though Patch 0.5.5 doesn't add a great deal of new content the new economy system could still attract players back.

  Major Balance Adjustments

  A major balance adjustment is one of the most probable changes in the 0.5.5 update for POE 2.

  Because of the constant addition of new classes, abilities, skills, and game mechanics, POE 2 has now a great many mechanics which may need to be modified.   Will Act 5 and more story content arrive?

  A less likely prediction is the arrival of the remaining main story content.

  One of the major pieces of content the developers will be able to reveal in patch 0.5.5 will be the unfinished chapters and the main plot developments of Path of Exile 2. There are, nevertheless, good reasons to delay the release of this content until after the official launch of Path of Exile 2 (1.0).

  It is better to hold on to the final features and include them in a major announcement at the time of the official release rather than adding them quietly in a small update prior to version 1.0, since this allows several completed systems to be shown at the same time, gives the game a more significant highlight, and draws in both current and new players.

  Hence, players should not expect the 0.5.5 update to finish the entire Path of Exile 2 storyline.
