CoD MW4 Released New Update to Ensure a Better Season 1 Experience

PublishedPublished: Nov 04, 2026

CoD MW4 Season 1 officially launches this Friday, November 6th. To ensure a smoother and more stable experience alongside the influx of new content, a new patch has been released for MW4 earlier this week.

In addition to standard fixes, this update includes further optimizations for Multiplayer and DMZ modes. Here is a breakdown of the changes.

General fixes

This update addresses several issues that previously caused game instability or crashes, the typical stability fixes you've come to expect.

Furthermore, regarding character movement, the developers have reverted a previous change, restoring the intended speed of the dive mechanic by 23%.

A bug that caused character animations to be skipped when transitioning from a prone to a standing position has also been resolved.

Previously, this bug allowed players to snap instantly from a prone position to a standing one, effectively bypassing the full animation sequence. While not a game-breaking issue, it did significantly detract from the intended gameplay experience.

Please note that some minor visual animation glitches resulting from these server-side fixes will be addressed in future MW4 updates.

As for weaponry, a vulnerability involving JOKR launcher has been patched by temporarily disabling its thermal mode. This is a short-term measure; the development team intends to implement a more comprehensive fix later.

In short, this bug allowed JOKR launcher to fire at a much higher rate than intended. Normally, a player must wait for a target lock before firing; however, this exploit enabled rapid-fire-like behavior.

On maps prone to spawn-killing, players could exploit this by rapidly toggling between thermal and standard optics to complete various challenges quickly.

By disabling the thermal mode, MW4 has eliminated this exploit, returning JOKR launcher to its original, intentionally slow rate of fire.

If you have grown accustomed to this playstyle recently, it is recommended that you invest extra time in MW4 bot lobbies to re-familiarize yourself with how this gear is actually meant to function.

Multiplayer optimizations

In Multiplayer mode, this MW4 update begins by refining the damage-received indicator: it now offers greater clarity, a simplified color scheme, and more granular visual feedback regarding which part of the body was hit.

Regarding maps, adjustments have been made to the spawn logic on Shipment, with further optimizations for this map planned for the future.

To be honest, this change was long overdue; the spawn design on Shipment was notoriously poor, frequently resulting in awkward situations where you and an enemy would repeatedly respawn directly in front of one another.

Additionally, the update addresses boundary-related bugs on Sentry and Mumbai maps that previously allowed players to move outside the intended play area.

Furthermore, the death skull icon on HUD has been adjusted, its brightness and opacity have been reduced to improve overall visual clarity.

In Free-for-All mode, Modern Warfare 4 has introduced a Final Kill replay, replacing the previous Best Play highlight. Work is also underway on a voice chat feature for players who are not part of a pre-made squad.

Another notable fix concerns Ground War: Combat Outpost: destroying friendly vehicles will no longer incorrectly count toward challenge progress.

Previously, players could exploit this by destroying friendly vehicles to easily complete vehicle-destruction challenges; now, such challenges can only be progressed by destroying enemy vehicles.

DMZ optimizations

As part of the latest gameplay adjustments for CoD MW4, the spawn locations for UAV Towers in DMZ are now randomized, and their total number has been reduced by 40%.

This change means that POIs are no longer guaranteed to have a UAV Tower, and it also prevents multiple towers from appearing in the same immediate area, but Deadtown POI is an exception to this change.

This is a necessary improvement for DMZ experience, as there has been widespread concern within MW4 community regarding the abuse of UAV Towers. Fortunately, this issue should now be more effectively contained.

Additionally, the duration of the sedative inhaler in DMZ has been doubled. This item provides a temporary window of immunity against all radar, marking systems, and thermal detection.

With the extended duration, it is now easier to remain undetected while within the range of a UAV tower, a significant advantage when scavenging for more DMZ items during a match.

It is worth noting, however, that even with a sedative inhaler, you cannot currently remain hidden from a UAV tower activated by an enemy player equipped with UAV upgrade trait. This issue is expected to be resolved during Season 1.

In addition to the updates mentioned above, you can track other major known issues in Modern Warfare 4 via the official Trello board, where you can also monitor the development team's progress in addressing them.

Preparing for Season 1

With Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 fast approaching, expect another major update, likely arriving by Friday, which will involve a substantial data download containing new content for Modern Warfare 4.

There will also be updates to content packs for Black Ops series. Depending on your platform, the process may vary: PlayStation users might need to complete several separate downloads, while those on Xbox or Steam will likely see a single, large, unified seasonal update.

If you want to jump into Season 1 the moment it goes live, it is highly recommended to take advantage of the pre-download feature. This option will be available no later than midnight on Thursday, just before the season officially begins.

Once Season 1 launches, new content, including maps, weapons, and more, will be rolled out in phases, spanning both the start of the season and the mid-season update. DMZ mode will also introduce a new facility location known as X01.

That covers everything for this update. We hope you enjoy a more stable gaming experience as you dive into Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 this weekend!
