There is less than a month left until the launch of Modern Warfare 4. The development team had remained largely silent since the beta ended, until yesterday, when they finally shared some new details in a brief dev talk.
While the talk didn't explicitly detail every change between the beta and the final release, as much is still in development and undergoing live testing, it does give you a clearer idea of what to expect when the game launches.
Here is a summary of the dev talk, offering a look at the gameplay environment likely to be present at the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

Slightly faster TTK
TTK (Time To Kill) mechanic was one of the most controversial aspects of CoD: Modern Warfare 4 beta. There was a noticeable difference in TTK between the first and second beta weekends.
Combat pacing was relatively fast during Weekend 1, allowing for quick kills, whereas Weekend 2 saw a noticeably slower TTK, making combat efficiency more dependent on sustained fire, positioning, and tactical choices.
The issue was that by the end of the beta, the developers hadn't clearly stated which pacing model would be adopted for the final release.
The dev talk clarified that the overall TTK in the final version of MW4 will lean closer to Weekend 2 settings, though specific weapons will undergo fine-tuning, resulting in a slightly shorter average TTK overall.
It is important to note that this reduction isn't being achieved by simply lowering the number of bullets required to kill across the board; instead, adjustments are being made individually to weapons that were performing inconsistently.
The goal of this strategy is to effectively improve the feel of specific weapons without reverting the entire game to a high-speed TTK environment.
However, this does mean that once the game launches, you will need to invest more time and effort into both selecting your weapons and adapting to the new TTK system.
To avoid unnecessary mistakes, we recommend practicing in MW4 bot lobbies to get a feel for the game's pacing before jumping into standard game modes.
SMG buffs
The developers specifically addressed SMGs during the interview. Due to the slower overall TTK in Weekend 2 beta, the performance of certain SMGs was noticeably affected.
This is because this weapon class relies primarily on high fire rates and close-range burst damage to gain an advantage; once the kill speed drops, they can easily be outclassed by other weapon types.
Consequently, Modern Warfare 4 will feature across-the-board buffs for SMGs upon official launch. However, this doesn't mean SMGs will dominate the entire game; rather, they will play a more significant role in close-quarters combat.
Therefore, if your playstyle in MW4 focuses on rapid aggressive pushes, flanking maneuvers, and indoor combat, SMGs are a weapon class worth prioritizing.
Additionally, the development team plans to adjust one-shot kill weapons. With the slower TTK, these weapons could become overpowered if left in their current state.
Blood Rush and Ninja perks
In an interview, the development team confirmed that Tactical Sprint will retain the settings from Weekend 2 beta: it is unavailable by default and must be paired with Blood Rush perk, but it incurs no sprint-out penalty.
This creates a trade-off between Blood Rush and Ninja perks: if you want to use Tactical Sprint without the sprint-out penalty, you cannot equip Ninja perk, meaning enemies will be able to hear your footsteps.
This design presents a classic choice between mobility and stealth; you cannot have every advantage at once and must select one as your core perk based on your playstyle.
Furthermore, MW4 plans to buff Battle Hardened perk to make it more effective against stun and flash grenades, thereby reducing their impact intensity or shortening their duration.
Returning of Specialist Mode
After being absent from two previous Modern Warfare titles, Specialist mode is finally making a comeback in CoD: Modern Warfare 4!
This means that in MW4, you can choose to forgo traditional killstreak rewards in favor of earning extra perks through consecutive kills during a match.
While specific implementation details haven't been revealed yet, the developers confirmed that Specialist mode won't be available at launch but will arrive later, possibly alongside Season 1. Aim Assist Adjustments
During the second beta weekend, Modern Warfare 4 slightly toned down the strength of aim assist within the critical 5-to-15-meter engagement range.
While specifics may vary by map, this is a common engagement distance in Call of Duty series, where win rates between mouse-and-keyboard and controller players are generally comparable.
However, mouse-and-keyboard players hold a slight advantage at longer ranges, whereas controllers offer a superior experience at extremely close quarters.
Consequently, while there are no concrete plans yet, developers may make further fine-tuning adjustments to aim assist based on these characteristics.

Hardpoint spawn changes
In almost any shooter, if spawn points are too far from the action, players waste significant time traversing the map; conversely, spawning too close to enemies often leads to being repeatedly killed or dying instantly upon respawn.
To mitigate these issues, MW4 development team continuously optimized spawn mechanics throughout the beta, with a particular focus on Hardpoint mode.
This mode requires constant combat around shifting objective points; if spawn points are too far from the current hill, it becomes difficult to return to the fight in time.
Therefore, the team aimed to make Hardpoint spawn system more dynamic, placing players closer to the actual combat zone while avoiding spawns directly next to enemies.
Double XP Token mechanic changes
As one of the game's most important boosters, the timing mechanism for Double XP Tokens is changing in Modern Warfare 4: they will now track in-game time rather than real-world time.
Additionally, the development team confirmed that these tokens can be used in DMZ mode, dispelling earlier rumors to the contrary.
Expect more news to be revealed via more interviews or other interactions before the official launch of MW4! Stay tuned!
