ARC Raiders Future New PvE Enemy Types Should Beyond Matriarch | How to Solve PvE Problem?

After the initial novelty of ARC enemies wore off, many ARC Raiders fans, aside from some casual players, began consuming more time on PvP gameplay.
However, this doesn't mean PvE mode is no longer important in ARC Raiders. In fact, it remains a major source of loot, especially certain materials dropped by some ARC robots.
Therefore, the development team has consistently focused on adding new ARC enemies to enrich the game's PvE elements and keep players constantly alert to these massive alien creatures during battles, ensuring the game's thrill and excitement.
So, if the game is going to continue adding PvE enemy types, what aspects should be focused on? And what pitfalls should be avoided? We'll analyze this for you.

Why add more PvE enemy types?
For a game to thrive in the long run, continuous updates to maintain freshness are crucial, and this also enriches the game itself. For example, Path of Exile series incorporates some old league mechanics into its core gameplay.
For a PvPvE shooter like ARC Raiders, its mechanics aren't as complex as MMORPGs. Aside from the ever-changing possibilities of PvP combat, PvE mode is relatively easy for players to master, which can lead to a loss of interest over time.
With this in mind, ARC Raiders design director recently stated that more ARC enemy types will be added in the future. While Queen and Matriarch are currently challenging enough, they will eventually find easier ways to win.
Furthermore, based on previous developers' emphasis on cooperative elements in ARC Raiders, enemies with strong defenses could be added. This would require teamwork to defeat them, effectively strengthening the game's team-based elements.
In fact, ARC enemies are closely connected to the game's lore and world-building. Therefore, adding new enemies not only enriches the combat but also expands the game's world, allowing for a deeper understanding of the universe and increasing immersion.
From which aspects should we start?
In general, PvE enemies in ARC Raiders can be divided into two categories: those that are relatively easy to defeat but can be annoying when they appear in groups, like small insects; and those that are large and pose a deadly threat, such as Queen.
Designing new enemies for the former is easier, as it only requires adhering to PvE mechanics and the game's art style. Of course, integrating them with the latest map or event updates would be even more interesting.
Designing larger ARC enemies requires considering many more elements. They are always related to more important loot and gameplay, so players pay more attention to them, and even slight mistakes can lead to dissatisfaction.
Therefore, for the development team to introduce new and satisfying PvE enemy types, first, they must ensure that the enemies have novel appearances, rather than simply being another creature resembling Queen or Matriarch.
Secondly, the enemy's attack patterns should also be as innovative as possible to motivate players to rethink their strategies to defeat the new type of enemy; otherwise, the new element loses its purpose.
Furthermore, powerful ARC machines should have at least one specific strategy to counter them, requiring new advanced weapons or grenades, which in turn necessitates corresponding ARC Raider blueprints and their acquisition methods.
Finally, new enemies should offer exclusive item drops that help players progress through the game or strengthen their characters. Otherwise, if players' efforts are not rewarded accordingly, the value and playability of the new enemies will be affected.
Therefore, designing new enemy types is not simply about adding a bot to the map; it requires connecting all related game mechanics and ensuring proper coordination across all areas for an effective update.
Based on the above, the following points should be considered when designing new ARC enemies:
- The backstory should align with the game's setting while further expanding the world-building.
- Skills and attack patterns should be unique to provide players with a sense of novelty and challenge.
- The appearance design needs to match the game's visual style and be easily recognizable.
- Ideally, they should interact with the map environment or events to enhance overall cohesion.
What difficulties need to be overcome?
For ARC bots, which have an endgame nature, a large size is inevitable; after all, we tend to assume that larger enemies are more dangerous.
This raises a question: if the new ARC Raiders PvE enemies are larger than all existing known enemies, will the game be able to support their models after placing them on the map?
If not, and this is difficult to overcome, the development team needs to abandon the design idea of increasing size. Otherwise, implementing new enemies will inevitably lead to bugs or even crashes, ruining the player's experience.
However, even if the technical difficulties are resolved, ensuring that larger bots can move and fight normally, it's still necessary to ensure that the existing gear system can support you in defeating them.
Given that the weapon strength in ARC Raiders is still controversial, achieving this would require the developers to completely reset and adjust the entire gear system - not only is it difficult, but it also requires time and research.
While there are still many difficulties, adding new PvE enemies is indeed necessary. We hope the development team can bring more fun and rewarding challenges from ARC bots soon, and also strengthen the development of PvE mode to meet the needs of more PvE enthusiasts.
