Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 launches on November 6, and the first Season 1 Battle Pass will go live at the same time.

Modern Warfare 4 features a 100-tier linear progression track packed with rewards. However, choosing the wrong way to unlock it could mean missing out on a significant number of additional rewards.

How To Get The Battle Pass?

There are three main ways to access Season 1 Battle Pass. The first is Standard Premium Version, which costs 1,100 COD Points. Once unlocked, you gain access to the Instant Sector and can earn all standard rewards by playing through the progression track.

The second option is Battle Pass Bundle, which costs 2,400 COD Points and includes 20 Tier Skips. This allows you to skip 20 of the 100 tiers immediately. You can also acquire additional Tier Skips afterward.

The third option is Vault Edition. It includes the full game, Hostile Alliance and Special Forces Operator Packs, five Signature Weapons, and one season of BlackCell benefits.

BlackCell itself includes Premium Battle Pass, 20 Tier Skip Tokens, 1,100 COD Points, and exclusive rewards. In addition, Vault Edition provides extra content such as DMZ Deployment Rewards, Hunter Killer Operator Skin, and Gilded Pearl Camo Pack.

Catch-Up System

This season introduces a new catch-up system for Battle Pass. According to the official announcement, Season 1 Battle Pass contains more than 100 rewards, and players who unlock Premium Battle Pass are guaranteed catch-up progress, allowing them to claim at least 50 rewards.

More specifically, if you do not unlock Premium Battle Pass or start playing immediately when the season begins, the system will automatically grant you enough Tier Skips to bring your progression in line with the current number of days in the season, up to a maximum of Day 50.

For example, if you unlock Battle Pass on Day 30 after the update, you will automatically receive 30 Tier Skips. Similarly, if you unlock it on Day 1 but do not play for a week, you will receive seven Tier Skips when you return. Since Battle Pass has 100 tiers in total, the catch-up system is capped at 50 tiers, equivalent to half of the progression track.

Keep in mind that this system is only available to players who unlock a Premium version of Battle Pass, including the 1,100 COD Points Standard Premium Version, the 2,400 COD Points Bundle, or Vault Edition. Free Battle Pass users do not benefit from this system and must still progress manually through gameplay.

Free players can earn Battle Pass XP by participating in matches and gradually increase their tier level. Alternatively, they can use Battle Pass XP Boost Tokens to speed up progression.

If you start playing several days after Season 1 launches, you can also buy CoD MW4 Bot Lobbies to level up your Battle Pass more easily. By taking out AI opponents, you can accumulate Battle Pass XP and Weapon XP without having to deal with the pressure of regular matches.

Why You Shouldn't Unlock BlackCell Separately?

You should avoid unlocking BlackCell separately, especially during Season 1. The reason is that BlackCell is already included in CoD MW4 Vault Edition. Upgrading from the Standard Edition to Vault Edition costs only $30, while BlackCell itself is also valued at $30.

Furthermore, upgrading to Vault Edition gives you access to the following additional content:

• Hostile Alliance Operator Pack, featuring four Operators: Price, Valeria, Ghost, and Blix.
• Special Forces Operator Pack, which unlocks Special Forces Operators from the UK, Germany, France, and South Korea.
• Signature Weapon Collection, featuring five exclusive weapon blueprints.
• BlackCell Battle Pass, which includes one season of Premium Battle Pass access, 1,100 COD Points, 20 Tier Skips, and BlackCell-exclusive rewards.
• DMZ Deployment Rewards, including an additional Active Duty Slot and various useful deployment supplies.
• Other cosmetic rewards, such as Hunter Killer Operator Skin, Gilded Pearl Weapon Camo Pack, and Inner Circuit Weapon Blueprint.

If you first unlock the 1,100 COD Points Standard Premium Battle Pass and then upgrade to Vault Edition, the system will refund the 1,100 COD Points you previously used to unlock Battle Pass.

Similarly, if you unlock Standard Battle Pass first and then upgrade to BlackCell, you will generally receive a refund of the 1,100 COD Points. However, this option is still less advantageous than unlocking Vault Edition directly.

What Does BlackCell Include?

BlackCell primarily includes the following content:

• The full Battle Pass
• BlackCell-exclusive Operators
• BlackCell-exclusive Weapon Blueprints
• 7 BlackCell Variant Operator Skins
• 7 BlackCell Variant Weapon Blueprints
• A BlackCell-exclusive universal Weapon Camo
• DMZ Survival Pack
• 1,100 COD Points
• 20 Battle Pass Tier Skips

The exclusive BlackCell Camo is expected to feature animation effects. However, early-season BlackCell cosmetics are generally less elaborate than Mastery Camos available later in Black Ops 7 lifecycle. Making them too similar to Mastery Camos could reduce players' motivation to grind for those completion rewards.

In terms of visual design, Modern Warfare 4's BlackCell cosmetics primarily use red and black rather than the traditional black and gold combination. However, some gold elements remain to preserve the familiar BlackCell aesthetic.

Beyond the regular rewards in Season 1 Battle Pass, there is also an additional set of completion rewards. Players who unlock Premium Battle Pass and complete all 100 tiers will have the opportunity to unlock eight additional Operator Skins afterward.

These rewards serve as an extra incentive for players to complete Premium Battle Pass. However, the official team has not yet revealed what these eight skins will actually look like.

In CoD Modern Warfare 4, leveling up isn't just about racking up kills; you need to maximize every available source of points in each match.

Character progression and weapon progression follow different rhythms, so they should be considered separately.

Character Leveling

Choosing the Right Mode

When playing MW4, if your primary goal is to level up, Team Deathmatch should not be your go-to mode.

Instead, prioritize modes like Hardpoint, Domination, Kill Confirmed, and Search and Destroy.

In Search and Destroy, XP earned per kill is more concentrated, and planting the bomb grants an additional ~300 XP.

In Kill Confirmed, you can consistently earn points by collecting Dog Tags - even if your personal kill count is low, you can still gain rewards simply by moving around the map and picking them up.

What these modes have in common is that they offer points from sources beyond just kills - such as capturing objectives, collecting items, or completing round-based goals - making them far more effective for steadily accumulating points and leveling up quickly.

Always take a moment before a match begins to review the rules and the timing of objective spawns; this will save you from wasting time running around aimlessly.

Don't Just Camp on Objectives

Beyond choosing the right mode in MW4, you also need to adopt the right approach - a mindset regarding objective control that applies across several of these game types.

For instance, in Hardpoint, you shouldn't just sit statically on the objective. Instead, let the enemy enter the zone, then retake it while clearing out any opponents nearby.

In Domination, once you've secured two points (such as A/B or C/B), focus your engagements around point B. You can even allow the enemy to capture a point, only to retake it yourself.

As mentioned earlier, the key to rapid leveling isn't just piling up kills - it's about increasing your score per minute.

To put it into perspective: a match where you get 35 kills but also contribute significantly through objective captures and assists is often much more rewarding than a match where you get 50 kills but zero assists and zero objective captures.

In Kill Confirmed mode, you can collect both enemy and friendly Dog Tags. This allows you to contribute to your team's offensive efforts while simultaneously racking up points.

When engaging near an objective, try to chain together kills, assists, and defensive actions; this enables you to generate multiple scoring events within a brief window of time.

Furthermore, if your team already controls an objective, consider jogging forward to intercept enemy reinforcements - don't just sit inside the objective zone and miss out on potential scoring opportunities.

Stacking Rewards

To further boost your efficiency, combine Scorestreaks (or Killstreaks), challenges, and Double XP Tokens.

Prioritize support-oriented streaks - such as UAV or Counter-UAV - that require a lower score threshold. This allows you to trigger them multiple times in a single match.

By doing so, you'll gain additional points from enemy kills while your support streaks are active in MW4.

Meanwhile, daily and weekly challenges offer significant XP rewards. It is best to complete these while a Double XP Token is active, allowing the challenge rewards and the token bonus to stack.

Select challenges that can be completed naturally while playing objective-based modes; this ensures you don't have to alter your playstyle solely to finish a challenge, while also allowing your streaks and challenge progress to complement each other within the same match.

Naturally, using both a Double XP Token and a Double Weapon XP Token simultaneously will accelerate the progression of both your character and your weapons - a much more effective approach than using just one.

Focus on Smaller Maps

It's worth noting that smaller maps in Modern Warfare 4 can significantly enhance your scoring efficiency in objective-based modes. Maps like Shipment, for instance, are exceptionally well-suited for modes like Hardpoint.

When you reach Prestige stage, Classic Prestige offers a 20% XP bonus; however, keep in mind that your unlocks will be reset.

Before entering Prestige, plan out which weapons and attachments you intend to prioritize - this will help minimize the adjustment period following the reset.

If long-term leveling speed is your priority, this is a trade-off worth considering.

When choosing maps, prioritize those where objectives are clustered together and spawn points are located near combat zones; this ensures that you can quickly return to the action - and the scoring opportunities - after every respawn.

Weapon Leveling

To level up your weapons, you can farm XP in DMZ mode: equip the weapon you want to level, complete in-game objectives, and eliminate enemies. As long as the weapon remains in your loadout - even if you don't use it for the actual kill - you will continue to earn weapon XP.

The risk, however, is that if you die, you will lose the weapon you are carrying and will need to acquire it again.

Alternatively, you can play Hardpoint mode on Shipment map. Try not to quit the match early; instead, find a corner or piece of cover, wait for enemies to approach, and focus on using the same weapon until it reaches max level.

Before entering DMZ, plan your extraction routes and secure necessary supplies to minimize the chance of dying while trying to level up your weapons.

Keep in mind that on Shipment map, you should expect a high death count - focus your attention on gaining weapon XP rather than your individual match performance.

If you're concerned that both paths carry too high a risk of death, you can also opt to use CoD MW4 Bot Lobbies to level up your weapons in a safer environment.

Whether you are leveling up your character or your weapons, you don't need to strive for a perfect outcome in every single match; simply focus on stacking bonuses and staying committed to your goal.
