Subnautica 2 Early-Game Tools You Need to Unlock Immediately to Survive Proteus: How to craft them at the fabricator?

Category: Subnautica 2 Posted: May 28, 2026 Views: 17

Thanks to its unique underwater exploration setting and the popularity garnered by its predecessor, Subnautica 2 was warmly received by fans following its Early Access launch on May 14th of this year.

As a direct sequel to Subnautica, Subnautica 2 introduces a new storyline and fresh environments. The changes in the latter mean you must fully utilize the new crafting system to survive the rigors of an alien underwater world.

With this in mind, we have compiled a list of essential tools you should prioritize crafting to survive on Proteus, along with the necessary preparations required to begin the crafting process.

Subnautica 2 Early-Game Tools You Need to Unlock Immediately to Survive Proteus: How to craft them at the fabricator?

Using the fabricator

In Subnautica 2, almost all items and tools are crafted using the fabricator.

Once you have established your base, you will find an initial fabricator located inside your Lifepod; this facility allows you to synthesize basic items. Later on, if you wish to craft more advanced gear, you will need to upgrade your fabricator.

Accordingly, the guide below lists the items you should prioritize crafting early in the game. Some of these items not only aid in your immediate survival but are also required as components when upgrading your fabricator.

Tadpole

Since Subnautica 2 is set in an underwater world, a vehicle is absolutely essential for venturing out from your base to explore, and Tadpole is your best companion during the early stages of the game.

The advantages of this vehicle include its agility, maneuverability, and ease of control. Furthermore, it boasts highly practical additional features, such as cargo storage and the ability to replenish your oxygen supply.

To unlock Tadpole, you must venture out and explore to locate three of its fragments in order to synthesize its blueprint. Afterward, back at your base, you will need to construct a Moonpool, followed by a Vehicle Fabricator.

Once those facilities are in place, simply deposit the following materials into Vehicle Fabricator to craft Tadpole:

  • 2x Titanium Ingot
  • 1x Glass
  • 1x System Chip
  • 1x Power Cell

These basic materials can only be obtained through exploration, and since constructing other base facilities also requires resources, farming for materials will inevitably consume a significant amount of your time and energy.

For this reason, we highly recommend checking out Subnautica 2 items for sale at IGGM! Whether you need to acquire raw materials or wish to directly unlock essential vehicles like Tadpole, our services have got you covered!

Repair Tool

As your primary vehicle during the early game, Tadpole is undoubtedly useful; however, it does have one drawback: it is prone to taking damage and wearing down. Given that swapping out vehicles isn't exactly a simple task, your next priority should be crafting a Repair Tool.

To do this, you will still need to collect three fragments, along with the following specific materials:

  • 1x Basic Battery
  • 1x Titanium Ingot
  • 1x Sulphur
  • 1x Wiring Kit

In fact, Repair Tool isn't just for Tadpole; it can also be used to repair other vehicles or exploration equipment. If your gear sustains damage during combat, repairing it immediately can often turn the tide of battle in your favor.

Additionally, while exploring underwater human ruins, you may occasionally encounter sunken wrecks. By using the tool to repair their hatches, you can gain access to search for supplies inside.

Sonic Resonator

This item functions as a stun weapon, though its effectiveness is limited; it is primarily useful for dispatching minor, insignificant enemies.

Its true value lies in its ability to quickly clear away hazardous, infectious substances, such as Viral Blooms, thereby helping you unlock new adaptations like Heat Tolerance.

Crafting this piece of gear requires two fragments, along with the following materials:

  • 1x Basic Battery
  • 2x Titanium Ingots
  • 2x Lead
  • 1x Wiring Kit

Wakemaker

This device is a wrist-mounted thruster that serves a dual purpose: providing both acceleration and illumination. Its hands-free design makes it incredibly convenient to use.

Although its two functions are straightforward, the acceleration boost significantly improves your efficiency when farming resources or making a quick escape. Meanwhile, the built-in light allows you to venture into pitch-black caves at any time without the need to carry a separate flashlight.

The blueprint for this item consists of three fragments, which are scattered approximately 100 to 200 meters north and south of your Lifepod. The other required materials are as follows:

  • 1x Wiring Kit
  • 1x Silver
  • 1x Grease
  • 1x Basic Battery

Standard O2 Tank

For humans, the single most vital resource for survival and exploration beneath the waves is undoubtedly oxygen! While your character starts with a basic oxygen reserve, carrying a dedicated Standard O2 Tank is a far better option!

This item provides an additional 75 units of oxygen storage capacity. No fragments are required; simply gather the following materials to craft it:

  • 2x Titanium
  • 2x Silver
  • 1x Rubber

Later on, you can consume 2x Titanium and 1x Lithium to craft a Plasteel Ingot, allowing you to upgrade your Standard O2 Tank into a High Capacity Air Tank, thereby boosting your oxygen capacity to 120 units.

However, regardless of what supplementary oxygen storage devices you carry, you must maintain the habit of constantly monitoring your remaining oxygen levels to avoid the fatal predicament of venturing too far only to find yourself without enough air to return.

Habitat Builder

As you progress deeper into the game, upgrading your base and fabricator becomes imperative, and Habitat Builder is the indispensable tool for the job.

Crafting this item requires two specific fragments, as well as the following materials:

  • 2x Titanium
  • 1x Glass
  • 1x Basic Battery
  • 1x Copper Wire

With an upgraded Fabricator, you can craft more advanced vehicles and weapons, while your base becomes a more comfortable and habitable living space.

More importantly, you can take Habitat Builder with you to construct smaller outposts in various biomes; this not only boosts your exploration efficiency but also provides additional locations for storing supplies.

The tools listed above are the ones we recommend you prioritize crafting when you first begin playing Subnautica 2. Good luck on your adventures in the underwater world!
