Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.0 Return of the Ancients Complete 24 Hour League Start Preparation Guide
Category: Path Of Exile 2 Posted: May 29, 2026 Views: 41
PoE 2 Patch 0.5.0 will go live at 1 PM Pacific Time on May 29th. For new league players, the hours leading up to launch determine the smoothness of the start. While most players focus on character builds and progression routes, the real impact on the early experience comes from system-level preparation.
The following five things need to be completed within 24 hours of May 29th to ensure operational efficiency and system stability at the start of PoE 2 Patch 0.5.0.
Store Organization
In PoE 2, after a league, Stash Tabs are marked as Remove Only and migrated to the standard league. If not addressed, Patch 0.5.0 will directly copy the standard league's Stash Tabs configuration upon launch, including cluttered labels and colors, forcing players to rename and recolor multiple pages before progression.
Hide/Remove
Log in to your PoE 2 character and go to town to open your storage. Many tabs marked "Remove Only" only allow item retrieval, not storage. If you don't need to keep the standard league, go to the game settings, select the "Interface" option, and check "Hide Remove Only tabs" and save.
This will visually remove all Remove Only tabs. Note that "Hide Remove Only tabs" only clears the view and does not affect the existence of regular tabs in the standard league.
If you want your new league to have a clean template, you still need to log into the standard league separately and rename and color the non-"Remove Only" tabs. A clean inventory structure also allows for more efficient storage and management of Path of Exile 2 Currency.
Preserve Template
To ensure your new league has the same Stash Tab naming and color scheme as the standard league in PoE 2, log into the standard league beforehand to organize the tab structure. Patch 0.5.0 will completely replicate this setup upon release. Spending just five minutes can avoid repeatedly modifying configurations during the early league progression.
Item Filtering
Item filters in PoE 2 control the display of loot drops. Early on, the visibility of Scroll of Wisdom and low-tier currency directly impacts leveling speed.
The default filter doesn't hide any items, but it severely obstructs vision later on. Custom filters are more reliable and can be set up in FilterBlade beforehand, with a one-click update a few hours before league launch.
Setting Strictness
Visit FilterBlade and click "Create New Filter". During the early stages of PoE 2 progression, set the strictness to "Soft" or "Normal" to not hide Scroll of Wisdom and low-tier gear, suitable for the first two chapters. Increase to "Semi-Strict" or higher after entering Chapter 3.
Use "Auto-Adjust" function, select your class and check the desired weapon types, and the system will generate a basic filter. With proper settings, you can prioritize displaying high-value drops, avoiding missing any Path of Exile 2 Currency.
Customizing Styles
In FilterBlade's "Customize" menu, modify item border color, background color, and font size. You can also use "Global Filter Style" preset. After completion, click "Export to PoE," log in to your account, and select "Save and Upload Once." You can then select it in the game under "Options" -> "Interface" -> "Item filters."
Cache Clearing
Shader Cache is the graphics data compiled and stored during the runtime of Path of Exile 2. With extended playtime, PoE 2 can cause this data to build up to tens or even hundreds of gigabytes, and in extreme situations, as much as 174 GB.
Redundant data occupies hard drive space, causing longer loading times and scene stuttering. Clearing Shader Cache is the most effective way to improve the league's smoothness. Note that upon first launching the game after clearing the cache, a brief stutter or slower loading may occur because of the need to recompile shaders; this is normal and will recover within about half an hour.
Delete Cache
If you're on Steam, open Steam Settings -> Storage; if Shader Cache exceeds 30 GB, click "Clear". Then close the game and Steam, making sure they are fully closed from the system tray as well.
Press Windows + R, type %localappdata%\NVIDIA\DXCache (for NVIDIA graphics cards) or the corresponding AMD path (%localappdata%\AMD\DXCache and %localappdata%\AMD\GLCache), and delete all subfolders.
Then type %programdata%\NVIDIA Corporation\NV_Cache and delete all files.
Restart and Build
Restart your computer after deletion. Reopen PoE 2; the game will automatically download and compile the shaders required for the current scene.
After logging in, teleport to multiple towns consecutively, staying for ten seconds at each, to help preload commonly used environment shaders. There may be brief stuttering initially, but it will return to a smoother state than before the cleanup within half an hour.
Drivers and Tools
Outdated graphics card drivers may cause texture loading errors or frame rate fluctuations. For PoE 2 players, many auxiliary tools may become ineffective after Patch 0.5.0 is released because of changes in game data. Updating in advance can prevent issues on the first day of the league.
Driver Updates
Open your graphics card control panel and check for driver versions released in May, paying attention to whether they include optimizations for DirectX 12 or Vulkan. Simultaneously, go to Windows Update and install all optional quality updates, especially .NET Framework and Visual C++ runtime patches.
Tool Updates
If using Sidekick, PoE Overlay II, or Awakened PoE Trade, open the software and check for updates. Developers usually release compatible versions within 12 hours of the league launch. If not yet updated, monitor its community status. For Path of Building, confirm if the community version has imported Patch 0.5.0 data. An alternative is to manually check the official trading website.
Queue Binding
Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.0 is usually accompanied by Twitch viewing drop events. You will not receive rewards if you do not bind your account in advance.
PoE 2 queue system allows entry into the queue up to one hour before server launch. By taking advantage of these two time windows, you can enter the game immediately after the league launches and ensure you don't miss out on limited-time cosmetics.
Twitch Connection
Log in to PoE 2 website, go to "My Account" - "Connect," and click Twitch icon to authorize. Confirm that the loot event is connected in Twitch's "Loot & Rewards" section. It's recommended to complete the connection before 12 PM on May 29th to avoid website overload after the servers open.
Pre-queue
The servers launch at 1 PM Pacific Time, and the queue opens at 12 PM. It's recommended to launch the client between 11:50 and 11:55 AM, log in, and wait for the queue to open (around 12:00 PM). Clicking "Start Game" will automatically place you in the queue.
If you queue after the servers launch, the wait may be up to 30 minutes. During the queue, you can watch the loot livestream and check if your Shader Cache has been regenerated.
The core objective of the five preparatory steps outlined above is the same: to eliminate all non-game-related distractions at the start of Patch 0.5.0. All steps should be completed by 12 PM Pacific Time May 29th. In PoE 2, a stable underlying environment is far more reliable than any shortcuts for early access.
