For players who have been battling through No Rest for the Wicked's early access for over two years, the 1.0 release, originally scheduled for October 2026, was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated milestones of the year. However, on September 1st, the studio suddenly announced that the final release date for 1.0 would be postponed from October of this year to March 2027.

Delay Announcement Explained

No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 Delayed to March 2027 with 60+ Hours of New Content and a New Class System

In a video, the creative director admitted that since the early access launch in early 2024, the team had been in a frantic sprint - constantly adding content, refining the class system, and advancing various features of version 1.0. However, after extensive internal testing, the team found that the game had not yet reached its full potential.

Therefore, the main objectives of the delay focus on three aspects:

  • Performance Optimization: Improving the game's performance across various platforms
  • Class System: Further refining the upcoming new class system
  • Overall Quality Polishing: Refining the game to a standard that satisfies both the team and players

He also stated that NRFTW's first prototype began development as early as the end of 2016. After nearly a decade of development, the team hopes to land safely in the final months, rather than rushing a release with minor bugs. His goal is to release a game that can make history and endure.

It's worth mentioning that the studio acquired full publishing rights for No Rest for the Wicked in March 2025, achieving completely independent operation. This also means that the team has complete control over the game's quality, and the delay decision is not influenced by pressure from external publishers.

Beta Testing and Founders Pack

On the other hand, the delay also gives players more opportunities to experience the game early. The studio plans to hold several closed beta tests in the coming months, followed by an open beta test in December.

The delay announcement specifically mentioned that the December Open Beta will be the last opportunity for players to experience the test version before the official release in March 2027. At that time, players will be able to experience a wealth of new features and content, including a brand-new class system.

The team will gather player feedback through testing and continue development adjustments accordingly. The official team also promised to continuously share development progress, key features, and design decisions with the community through regular Wicked Inside updates.

Furthermore, due to the 1.0 delay, the studio has adjusted the deadline for obtaining the Founders Pack. All PC players who own No Rest for the Wicked before January 1, 2027, will receive Founders Pack reward; the previously set deadline of July 10th has been cancelled.

Meanwhile, PS5 pre-orders will begin in January 2027, and pre-order customers will also receive Founders Pack.

Key Highlights of 1.0: 60+ Hours of New Content and a Brand New Class System

60+ Hours of New Content

No Rest for the Wicked boss

According to the studio's 1.0 plan, the official release of No Rest for the Wicked will not simply be the end of early access, but a massive expansion of the existing game. It is expected that 1.0 will add over 60 hours of new content, bringing the total content to approximately 100 hours.

Players will explore over 15 handcrafted new areas, face more bosses and enemies, and acquire a large number of new weapons. At the same time, Horde Mode will be added to the game, providing players with a more combat- and build-oriented challenge.

Faced with increasingly challenging content, players will also need to learn how to effectively utilize No Rest for the Wicked gold to repair equipment, replenish consumables, and prepare their character builds to better handle the new content brought by 1.0.

In terms of story, 1.0 will complete the final chapter of the main storyline and present a complete ending through new hand-drawn cutscenes. After completing the game, players can continue their challenge through a brand new endgame event.

The multiplayer experience will also be further improved. Persistent Multiplayer allows players to adventure together in private realms, where other players can continue to enter and progress even if the player who created the realm is offline.

Class System

The early access of NRFTW used a more traditional attribute system, which shaped characters through attribute points such as strength and dexterity. While this attribute progression method is mature, players can easily make attribute allocation choices without understanding the consequences, and these choices ultimately determine the character's playstyle.

Therefore, the studio decided to use the Jobs System from Final Fantasy Tactics as a key design inspiration in 1.0 to revamp No Rest for the Wicked progression system.

The core concept can be summarized as: a class should not just be a tag selected during character creation, but should truly change the way players fight.

For example, players can initially play as a Guardian. The Guardian is a typical sword and shield class, and the system rewards blocking, shielding, and defensive behaviors through traits.

However, if players find themselves particularly drawn to attacking enemies from behind, they can switch to Assassin, acquiring traits related to stealth and backstabs through assassin gameplay.

More importantly, players can carry over acquired Assassin traits to Guardian, granting their original sword and shield character some assassin abilities, ultimately creating a hybrid build distinct from traditional class templates.

While No Rest for the Wicked's 1.0 journey has been delayed by several months, every step has been solid. From the revolutionary class system to over 60 hours of new content, from the open beta in December to the extended founders pack window, the developers are demonstrating their commitment to quality. See you in Isola Sacra, March 2027.
