EA FC 27 isn't Even Out Yet and it's Already a Mess | The Triangle Design is the Best They've Got?

Players, EA Sports FC 27 hasn't even officially launched yet, and its promotional campaign is already making a fool of itself - can you believe it? The first major piece of news used to generate hype is actually the triangle icon in the game menu.
Some speculate that the so-called leakers are close to FC 27 employees, and that the official team deliberately let them release information little by little to keep the game a hot topic all summer. Although the development team says they don't like being leaked, the actual situation doesn't seem to fit.
The 2026 World Cup did give the current FC series a boost, but everyone's enthusiasm for FC 27 seems to be waning. They didn't deliver on their promises, and now a new game is coming - would you still want to play it?
The Reason for its Resurgence
The World Cup really gave this football game a huge boost, as evidenced by the number of online players for FC 27 - nearly 150,000 concurrent players on Steam at its peak. Everyone was hooked on football.
But actually, this is only the most obvious reason for its resurgence. A more important reason is the significant price reduction of the game. This is no joke; in some places, it's practically like giving the game away for free.
While the peak player count is significantly higher than during the last World Cup, back then you needed $70 to play FIFA 23, so the two are incomparable.
Now, with the 2026 World Cup final fast approaching, the game developers are likely capitalizing on the hype surrounding the final to release a trailer for FC 27 and attract more attention.

Current Leaks
Regarding the game's content, multiple sources have confirmed the cover player lineup for the next installment, including Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappé, Pedri, Paulo Dybala, Bradley Barcola, Jamal Musiala, Kenan Yıldız, and female soccer players Chloe Kelly and Alyssa Thompson.
The design of the gold cards was also accidentally leaked, giving us a pretty clear idea of what they will look like.
Regarding new players, Heroes and Hall of Fame currently being tested include Kolo Touré, Daniel Sturridge, Rafael van der Vaart, as well as newly added legends Paolo Rossi and the confirmed Raphaël Varane.
Diogo Jota is also listed as a potential hero. While some believe this decision may be controversial, the general consensus is that Jota had a great passion for football games and would certainly want to be included in the game, making this a fitting tribute.
More importantly, leakers have repeatedly suggested that the basic gold cards for FIFA 27 may no longer include PlayStyle Plus feature. If this were true, it might improve game balance for players. However, given that the evolution system has become a key feature for the development team, this change seems unlikely at present.
Players May Already be Bored
Despite the exciting 2026 World Cup, many core players have historically low expectations for FUT 27, primarily because of the current version's poor performance in delivering on its promises, repeatedly disappointing players.
While FC 27's gameplay is slightly improved compared to the current version, does it reach a satisfactory level? Far from it.
An even more fundamental problem is the annual pattern of releasing a new game every September or October and then resetting all progress. This has bored many players, leading to a stagnant or even declining player base over the past three years.
Furthermore, new players who want to use top-tier player cards like Erling Haaland and Lionel Messi often need to accumulate enough FC 27 coins and rely on the complex Evolution system, making it difficult to quickly get started. Playing those players isn't something you can do casually with.
Meanwhile, the upcoming strong competitor, GTA 6, must be mentioned, forcing FC 27 to make truly meaningful changes to remain competitive during its release cycle. However, according to reliable sources, FC 27 will not undergo major overhauls in its core mechanics, so we have even less to expect from this game.
Menu Considerations
Regarding the menu interface of EA FC 27, leaked images show a rather dark color scheme, leading some to suspect this is a psychological tactic by the development team - intentionally making the main interface dull to encourage players to click into the brightly colored Ultimate Team mode, thereby increasing player activity in Ultimate Team section.
But if the new menu interface is similar to the old one, why would players buy it? Especially in the current marketing, where even the triangle design of the menu is being touted as major news, who cares about that?

A close analysis of this approach reveals only two possibilities: either the development team is deliberately creating artificial hype, or players are overly excited about even the smallest changes.
Ultimately, the development team needs to seriously consider several key questions: How can they attract more newcomers to Ultimate Team? How can they make the controls in FC 27 feel more like watching a real game? And how can they regain the trust lost because of last year's hype?
Even those who specialize in leaking copyright information have said that you shouldn't just focus on the cover artists and licensed teams; the game's inherent fun factor is what matters most.
While FC 27 marketing strategy is unclear, as long as the final game is good, none of this really matters.
