How Does the Prestige System Work in Modern Warfare 4?

Modern Warfare 2 did not feature a classic Prestige System. Instead, players simply leveled up by playing the game. Each season or update introduced a level cap, which increased with the launch of a new season, eventually bringing the maximum overall level to around 1,250.
CoD Modern Warfare 4 features a more complex Prestige System than previous entries. It includes two separate paths for overall Prestige, brings back Weapon Prestige, and introduces a dedicated Operator Prestige system for DMZ. Let's take a closer look at how each system works.

Overall Prestige Structure
In Modern Warfare 4, players can continue leveling up their overall rank and earning XP through Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone, which launches alongside Season 1.
You can progress from Level 1 to Level 55; at that point, you can choose not to prestige and retain all your unlocked content. Alternatively, you can opt to prestige and embark on a longer-term progression journey.
Modern Warfare 4 offers two paths for overall Prestige: Classic Prestige, the traditional option with greater rewards, and Regular Prestige, a more casual alternative that preserves unlocked content. In addition, the game features Weapon Prestige and DMZ Operator Prestige.
Classic Prestige
Classic Prestige is the traditional system familiar to longtime players. Once players reach the required level, they can choose to Prestige, resetting their level unlocks and Create-a-Class progression. They must then level up again and gradually unlock content from scratch.
In return, Classic Prestige offers faster XP gains, exclusive Prestige rewards, and a path toward Prestige Mastery.
This route is best suited to players who value long-term progression, completion, and high-value rewards. Although it comes with greater risks and a more substantial reset, the rewards are also more exclusive and valuable.
Regular Prestige
Regular Prestige is designed for a more casual experience. Players also return to Level 1, but all previously unlocked content and Create-a-Class progress remain intact. High-level unlocks, such as rifles and Perks, along with all available weapons, remain usable even though the displayed level resets to 1.
Regular Prestige also offers Prestige rewards and milestone bonuses, but its rewards represent only a portion of those available through Classic Prestige, with fewer exclusive and high-value items. Its main advantages are lower risk and less hassle, making it ideal for players who do not want to repeatedly unlock everything from scratch.
Weapon Prestige
Weapon Prestige also returns in CoD MW4. Although the available information does not yet detail the entire system, some of the camos obtainable through Weapon Prestige have already been revealed.
The system may work similarly to Black Ops 7. Once a weapon reaches its maximum level, players may be able to Prestige it in exchange for exclusive content, potentially including additional Attachments or simply unique camos.
Reaching the max level in MW4 can take around one to two weeks, but MW4 Bot Lobbies for sale can help you level up faster and reach the level cap sooner.

DMZ Operator Prestige
DMZ features its own dedicated Prestige system for Operators. The mode has a separate leveling track from Level 1 to Level 70, independent of the overall progression system, which runs from Level 1 to Level 55.
While playing DMZ, players continue earning XP toward Classic Prestige or Regular Prestige while simultaneously progressing their DMZ Operator's level and Prestige rank.
First Prestige Requirements
To complete the first Prestige, your Operator must accumulate 18 Trait Points. These points do not all need to be spent, although investing them in your Operator is recommended to improve its capabilities.
The first Prestige also requires 2 Rare or higher-rarity weapons, each equipped with three Attachments.
You must also have at least 1 Rare or higher-rarity Plate Carrier, one Rare or higher-rarity Backpack, and a total of four Rare or higher-rarity Printer Ingredients.
You will also need sufficient DMZ cash. The exact amount required for the first Prestige has not been revealed, but the funds will be deducted from your DMZ bank account.
Before Prestiging, it is recommended that you remove any items you do not want to sacrifice from your Backpack and loadout, as the required equipment will be consumed during the process.
Once all requirements are met and you confirm Prestige, the required equipment will be removed, the cash will be deducted, and Operator's Traits will be reset. The character will then receive one random permanent Prestige Trait.
This permanent Trait belongs exclusively to Operator who completed Prestige. Even if you dismiss that character, assign them to a different deployment slot, or change their skin, Trait will remain bound to that Operator.
Second Prestige Requirements
After completing the first Prestige, players can accumulate Trait Points for the same Operator again. Once they reach another 18 Trait Points, they can complete the second Prestige.
The requirements for the second Prestige increase to:
- 2 weapons with 4 Attachment slots each.
- 1 Epic-rarity Plate Carrier
- 1 Epic-rarity Backpack
- 4 Epic-rarity 3D Printer Ingredients
- 300,000 DMZ cash
As with the first Prestige, the required equipment will be consumed, Operator's Traits will be reset, and the character will receive a second permanent Prestige Trait.
Third Prestige Requirements
The requirements for the third Prestige increase to:
- 2 weapons with four Attachment slots each
- 1 Legendary-rarity Plate Carrier
- 1 Legendary-rarity Backpack
- 4 Legendary-rarity 3D Printer Ingredients
- 500,000 DMZ cash
Completing this Prestige grants a third permanent Prestige Trait.
Operators can continue Prestiging beyond the third time. The requirements for the fourth and subsequent Prestiges remain fixed at the third Prestige level. Players will still need 500,000 cash, a Legendary-rarity Plate Carrier and Backpack, and the corresponding Printer Ingredients.
When entering the fourth or a higher Prestige, Operator receives a new permanent Prestige Trait, which must be compared with the three permanent Traits already owned.
Players can choose to discard one of their existing three permanent Traits and replace it with the new one. Alternatively, they can keep all three existing Traits and discard the newly acquired one. Regardless of the choice, each Operator can have a maximum of three permanent Prestige Traits at any given time.
Beyond permanent Traits, Prestiging multiple different Operators can also unlock additional rewards, including Calling Cards and Classified Rewards.
That covers everything currently known about how Prestige System works in Modern Warfare 4. However, we will need to see the official rewards before deciding whether it is worth resetting progression and unlocking everything all over again.
