CoD Black Ops 7 Season 2 Zombies Direction Clarified by Developers | What The Team Is Actually Prioritizing?

Category: CoD: Black Ops 7 Posted: Jan 21, 2026 Views: 939

CoD Black Ops 7 Season 1 Reloaded has been out for almost two weeks. While it's packed with content, players are likely more focused on Season 2, which will be released on February 5th.

This discussion won't cover the specific updates for Season 2, but rather Zombies mode update plans. In a recent interview, Call of Duty developers discussed the upcoming second season of Zombies mode and several future updates and adjustments.

CoD Black Ops 7 Season 2 Zombies Direction Clarified by Developers | What The Team Is Actually Prioritizing?

Community Communication

The official team typically releases information about Season 2 Zombies at 115 Day. You can find plenty of engaging content from the community on their official blog, as well as previews of Season 2 and Season 2 Reloaded content.

However, the development team remains tight-lipped about details of the upcoming new Zombies map. More information will be released closer to the new season through roadmaps and the blog.

Developer Kevin Drew stated that the development team is very willing to communicate with the player community and is carefully listening to all player feedback, which will be used to evaluate and adjust the game. He encouraged players to continue actively providing feedback, as the development team is likely paying attention to community discussions.

Game Fix Priorities

Regarding players' concerns about the speed of game fixes, Kevin explained in detail the team's prioritization logic.

Because the difficulty and time required to fix different issues vary greatly, some issues require modifications to the game's executable file, which is a lengthy process, while others can be quickly fixed through online updates.

The development team will evaluate each issue on a case-by-case basis. Bugs that significantly disrupt the game experience and challenge, such as using automated scripts to easily reach high round counts in Zombie Mode, will be given the highest priority for fixing.

The team has noticed 999-round matches and players farming rounds to obtain Calling cards. They believe this behavior undermines the core challenge of the game and is a key focus for the team, which expects to fix it soon.

The development team doesn't want any changes to CoD BO7 to diminish its fun, unless it's a serious bug that severely impacts game balance and the experience of other players. If a change receives feedback from players that it reduces fun, the development team may decide to roll it back to its original state.

Cursed Survival Mode

Now let's look at the content actually related to Season 2. Currently, it's officially confirmed that Cursed Survival mode will officially launch in Season 2.

In this mode, players can use all unlocked Relics on all survival maps. To ensure proper gameplay and provide sufficient incentives, the development team has set up exclusive rewards for completing different levels of challenges on different survival maps, including generous experience bonuses, GobbleGums items, and unique weapon charms designed based on Relics themselves.

This mode will only support private matchmaking. The reason is that activating multiple Relic combinations can create extremely difficult game matches, and the development team doesn't want players to accidentally enter such matches in public matchmaking. Kevin acknowledged that open matchmaking might lead to issues like hosts abusing Relic privileges.

Relic System

Relic system is central to the development team, and they plan to continuously release new Relics throughout the entire lifecycle of Black Ops 7.

The development team's ideas are not endless, and they hope to build this system collaboratively with the player community. They hope to listen to community feedback while combining team ideas to conceive new Relics that could change gameplay or explore their combined effects.

Kevin hinted that future Relics, like Samantha's Drawing, could completely transform the game experience. He also encouraged players to suggest classic items they would like to see from Call of Duty's zombie history, such as Focusing Stone, Summoning Key, and Elemental Shard.

Balance Adjustments

Little Green Menace-1

Kevin confirmed that they are evaluating enhancements to Wonder Weapon Little Green Menace-1. Given its unique feature of unlimited ammo, this adjustment will be very cautious. The team has heard player feedback regarding its insufficient damage in later rounds, so it's highly likely to receive a buff in Season 2. The weapon is also confirmed to be added to the new survival map, Mars, in Season 2.

O.S.C.A.R.

The development team believes O.S.C.A.R. is currently well-positioned as a tank-like elite enemy. It has high health and damage, but it's not always necessary to kill it.

Currently, complaints from the player community are that the rewards for killing O.S.C.A.R. are too meager relative to its difficulty. Players want it to at least drop tangible rewards such as random Perk-A-Cola, gear points, or Pack-a-Punch Crystals.

Kevin understands this, but they haven't guaranteed any adjustments in Season 2, only stating that they are still considering it.

Undiscovered Relics

Regarding the artifacts yet to be found on Astra Malorum map, the development team has explicitly stated that they exist but have simply not yet been discovered by players. The team will not provide further hints at this time, encouraging players to continue exploring. However, if no players find it before the new map is released, the development team may provide clues in the future.

While the development team shared some update plans for Season 2, they have been very cautious in revealing any information that would truly excite players. We will still have to wait for the official Season 2 roadmap for specific details.
